1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Viollet ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.

Viollet is a personal finance expense tracking application that processes email notifications from financial institutions to automatically track and categorize your expenses.

2. Description of Service

Viollet provides automated expense tracking by:

• Accessing email notifications from financial institutions you authorize
• Using artificial intelligence to extract transaction information from emails
• Categorizing and tracking expenses automatically
• Providing financial insights, budgets, and analytics

3. Account Registration and Security

To use Viollet, you must:

• Create an account using a valid email address
• Provide accurate and complete information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to maintain account security.

4. Email Access and Data Processing

By using Viollet, you explicitly grant us permission to:

• Access your Gmail account through the Gmail API with read-only permissions (gmail.readonly scope)
• Read email notifications from financial institutions you explicitly authorize in your account settings
• Process email content using artificial intelligence to extract transaction data
• Store only the extracted structured transaction information in our secure database

Limited Access: You maintain full control over which email addresses and institutions we can access. We only process emails from addresses you explicitly authorize in your account settings. We do not access, read, or store your personal emails, sent emails, drafts, spam, trash, or any emails outside of authorized notification addresses.

Data Use Limitation: We use Gmail data solely to provide the expense tracking service you requested. We do not use Gmail data for advertising purposes, sell Gmail data to third parties, or use Gmail data for any purpose other than extracting transaction information for your personal financial tracking. We comply with Google's API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Revocation: You can revoke Gmail access at any time through your account settings or by revoking access in your Google account settings. Upon revocation, we will immediately stop accessing your Gmail account and delete any stored Gmail access tokens.

5. AI Processing and Data Accuracy

Viollet uses artificial intelligence (specifically Google Gemini) to extract transaction information from authorized email notifications. When processing emails:

• Email content is sent to Google Gemini API solely for the purpose of extracting transaction data
• Only the extracted structured data (amount, date, description, merchant) is stored in our database
• The full email content is not retained after processing
• Email content is not used to train AI models or for any other purpose

Accuracy Disclaimer: While we strive for accuracy, AI extraction may occasionally produce errors or misinterpretations. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting any inaccuracies. We are not liable for financial decisions made based on extracted data, and you should verify important transactions independently with your financial institution.

6. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

• Use the Service only for lawful purposes
• Not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' accounts
• Not use the Service to violate any applicable laws or regulations
• Not interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
• Not use automated systems to access the Service without permission
• Maintain the confidentiality of your account credentials

7. Intellectual Property and Data Ownership

The Service, including its original content, features, and functionality, is owned by Viollet and protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Your Data: You retain ownership of all data you provide to the Service, including your transaction data. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to use, process, and store your data solely for the purpose of providing the expense tracking service. We do not claim ownership of your data, and you can export or delete your data at any time.

Gmail Data: We do not claim ownership of any Gmail data. Gmail data remains subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We access Gmail data only with your explicit authorization and use it solely for the purpose of extracting transaction information as described in these Terms.

8. Service Modifications and Availability

We reserve the right to:

• Modify or discontinue the Service at any time
• Change features, functionality, or pricing with reasonable notice
• Perform maintenance that may temporarily interrupt service

We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of significant changes, but we are not obligated to provide advance notice for all modifications.

9. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting your account through the Service settings. Upon termination:

• Your access to the Service will be immediately revoked
• We will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy
• You may request a copy of your data before termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent or harmful activities.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
• All transactions will be accurately extracted or categorized
• The Service will meet your specific requirements

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Viollet, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any rights of another party.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Viollet operates, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
